How To Grow in Christ

Our manual encourages church attendance. Just as people need natural families, God has established the church as the family for believers. In a healthy family no one is the same and no one is perfect. Faces resemble but there are different personalities, different roles, different likes and dislikes; there are different nuances that make up a love known to those within, and palpable by those without.
“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 NKJ) The fellowship with other Christians is found in the church. It is in this institution that the “saved” can assemble for encouragement, understanding and further direction. Hebrews 10:25 also says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Church is the first step after accepting Christ.

When looking for a church don’t be hasty, pray. Then base your visits upon the teaching given. Is the sermon or lesson Bible based? Do you understand what is being taught? Do the people represent what the scriptures as Christians? And, do you hear God saying this is the place for you? If you can answer yes to these questions, visit the church for awhile to understand its vision. Remember, no church is perfect so your final selection should be based on what you believe God has said to you and how you envision your personal growth. Once you’re clear, trust God and expect Psalm 92:13 (“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the court of our God.”) to be your reality.
